Bonelli’s Gîtes

Welcome to Bonelli’s Gites, our Tranquil Vineyard Haven

Nestled in a hidden limestone valley north of Bize-Minervois, our two tastefully renovated stone houses provide a tranquil and comfortable retreat amidst aromatic hillsides flourishing with juniper, rosemary, and wild thyme.

Although the secluded and peaceful hamlet of La Roueyre is surrounded by woodlands, vineyards, and an impressive array of wildlife, including eagle owls, red squirrels, and the rare Bonelli’s eagle, our guests are still only a few kilometers away from vibrant markets, acclaimed restaurants, historic towns, renowned wineries, and the picturesque Canal du Midi. This location is an ideal base for sightseeing, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, wildlife observation, or relaxation by the pool.

Each house is tastefully furnished and offers private outdoor areas complete with individual pools, creating an exceptional environment for couples, families, or groups of friends seeking relaxation or adventure.

Please use this guidebook to enhance your stay and help you to discover some of the hidden gems in the heart of the Languedoc.

need to know’s

nearest supermarkets

The hamlet of La Roueyre is very small and doesn't have any shops. There is a small Spar shop and wonderful bakery (La Station – best croissants in the area) in Bize-Minervois (10 km south of La Roueyre). There is also a Spar store and larger Intermarché in St Chinian 10 km north of La Roueyre. There are also bakers, newsagents, post office and variety of other small stores here. Saint Chinian has a great Sunday food market well worth a visit. Much larger supermarkets are located in Argelliers (14 km) and Saint-Marcel-sur-Aude near the Canal du Midi (18 km). These are open Sunday morning from Spring to Autumn. If you arrive on Saturday night and need to buy food on Sunday, your best options are the Intermarché at Argelliers or Saint-Marcel or the market at St Chinian – all are only open Sunday morning.

April and May are the best months for wildlife

If you're a wildlife enthusiast, we highly recommend visiting in April or May, which is peak springtime in La Roueyre. During these months, the hamlet comes alive with a rich variety of flora and fauna, making it the ideal time for walks in the valley, birdwatching, and discovering the area's natural environment.

September - the little summer of the quince tree

Our local Indian summer (or el veranillo del membrillo as its called in Spain) in September and early October can be fantastic. Although the weather can be a bit unpredictable and the nights cool, the days are often hot and sunny. The towns and villages are also much calmer, the beaches are quiet and the sea is still warm. Its a lovely time to visit if you are looking for even more peace and quiet,
